Yamaha India has launched its first ever scooter in Hyderabad India on 14th September 2012. This scooter was first unveiled at the Indian auto show, Auto Expo 2012 in January 2012 in capital city Delhi, India. The first ever scooter by Yamaha India is targeted towards women buyers as its styling and design is meant to attract the fairer sex. The Yamaha Ray is priced at Rs. 46,000 Ex-showroom Delhi (approximately USD 900) which is very competitive pricing as most other scooters in India are also priced in similar price band.
Yamaha Ray will be endorsed by popular Indian actress Deepika Padukone. She will be endorsing the scooters for Yamaha India while the motorcycles will continue to be endorsed by John Abraham who is an avid biker and popular Bollywood actor from India.
Yamaha Ray Scooter Design And Styling
Styling is quite nice and attractive, but the touch of pink and cuteness all over makes it directly targeted to ladies. Just like popular two wheeler makers have separate products targeted towards women like Hero Pleasure and separate towards men like Hero Maestro, this is a common practice in India now. Even the ad campaigns are pretty clear about expressing the gender bias associated with the products.
There is large headlamp cluster on the front side of the body mounted below the handle bar. The front of the scooter seems protruded forwards giving it a forward looking design. When you look at it from the sides, there is plenty of gloss and shiny touch with vibrant colours with dual-tone body styling. The exhaust muffler is also quite stylish and blackened with heat shield.
The height of the scooter is kept low for easy use by women as it is difficult to ride a higher seat especially in Indian traditional wear like saree. Coming to rear, there is a large tail lamp cluster with integrated turn indicators.
