Specifications, Features and Details
2015 Yamaha FZ-07 is powered by a 689cc parallel twin liquid cooled engine. The engine is built on a brand new platform. It is compact and serves as a stressed member in the diamond-type, backbone high-tensile steel frame to reduce weight. It produces a claimed 75 crankshaft HP at 9000 rpm, while torque peaks at 50ft-lb at 6500rpm. The bike comes with a new asymmetrical steel swing-arm which not only aids handling but also improves the aesthetic appeal of the motorcycle. The engine uses the same 270-degree crossplane crankshaft design found in Yamaha’s four cylinder R1 and M1 models. The concept is, by rotating the position of adjacent crank by 90 degrees, inertial torque is virtually eliminated allowing combustion torque to closely mimic composite torque and allow linear power delivery.
Seating position is not aggressive but upright and neutral. The seat height is 31.7 inches. Brakes have wave-type rotors with a monobloc four piston Caliper in front and a single Caliper in the rear. But to keep the price under check ABS anti-braking system is missing. The bike has a 55.1 inch wheelbase and 24 degree-rake with a slim 3.7 gallon tank. It has Transistor Controlled Ignition.
A cable-actuated clutch replaced the ride-by-wire system of FZ-09 works well with spot on fuelling for quick-to-respond throttle. Its deft maneuvering is enhanced by light steering and light action controls. Yamaha claims the bike is capable of 58 mpg and a range of 210 miles. This is because of a torquier engine rather than higher rpm one. It has a five way adjustable brake lever with 282 mm dual floating disks in front and 245 mm single disc at rear. FZ-07 also has 10 spoke aluminum wheels. Headlamp is positioned lower than usual, giving it an aggressive look.
The bike has stroke measurements of 80mmx68.6mm with a compression ratio of 11.5:1. The bike also has a fully digital LCD instrument console showcasing information like speedometer, bar-type tachometer, gear indicator, fuel gauge, odometer clock average, two trip meters, instantaneous fuel consumption and small warning lights.
All in all, Yamaha’s FZ-07 is one of the most entertaining new bikes of 2014.The bike is a complete package with something for everyone from first-timers to experienced bikers.
