Hero MotoCorp Developing 250CC Motorcycle With Erik Buell Racing

Hero MotoCorp is the world’s largest two wheeler maker by volumes and after the recent disassociation with its long time partner Honda in India, Hero is exploring new opportunities and is busy signing pacts with new technical partners.

Recently the Indian major had announced that it will we working with Eric Buell Racing, Hero’s its new technical partner. Then, only the agreement between the two was disclosed and Hero did not throw any light on their upcoming projects.

Now according to an interesting piece of information that has surfaced, Erik Buell Racing and Hero MotoCorp together are working on an all new 250 CC motorcycle which will be an India exclusive product. The motorcycle is expected to arrive in the Indian two wheeler market in the later half of 2014, while the official unveiling is supposed to happen at the 2014 Auto Expo.

Hero and EBR Working on 250 CC Motorcycle

It is very clear that the 250 CC motorcycle which is under development will not be a regular Hero product. It will sport an entirely new design philosophy which could be inspired by Buell or an entirely new one. Moreover it will come loaded with new generation technologies which can be seen on other motorcycles existing in the 250 CC segment. As of today the quarter class sports bike segment is flourishing rapidly in India with some great motorcycles such as the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, Honda CBR250R and KTM Duke 200.

These three motorcycles will be the toughest competitors for this upcoming motorcycle from Hero and it would be very interesting to see how well the new motorcycle will handle the stiff competition in India.

Initially the bike will be launched in India only but immediately after that we could see Hero launching the same in other global markets. This is on the lines of what Bajaj, one of the leading two wheeler manufacturer in India, did with KTM. Bajaj sourced technology from KTM and has used it on its latest product the Pulsar 200NS. So while Erik Buell Racing will take care of the design and development of the new motorcycle, Hero will focus on the production and marketing.

Once the new 250CC product is rolled out of Hero’s production plant, we can see more products based on the same platform later on. Stay tuned to Ride Talks for latest information from the Motorcycle world.
