Honda Sets Up Technical Center In India– Becomes Fastest Growing Motorcycle Maker In Country

Honda India’s four wheeler arm might be facing a tough time, but the two-wheeler subsidiary is extremely content with its performance. For straight 18 months Honda is the fastest growing two wheeler company in India registering a 49 % growth. The company’s domestic market share has moved up from 13 % last year to 19 % in April – September 2012.

One of the major factors for this phenomenal growth is the Honda Dream Yuga commuter motorcycle which was launched a while back. The new motorcycle has led to a five fold jump in sales in the 100 CC – 110 CC mass motorcycle market from April to September 2012. In only 4 months ending September 2012, the motorcycle has sold over 100,000 units.

Honda two wheelers India facility will be further developed to increase exports volumes and make it a global export hub with export to many key motorcycle markets like Europe, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Latin America.

Striving to achieve further growth, Honda is planning to commence CKD exports to Honda’s JV company in Bangladesh in 2013.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Keita Muramatsu – President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said,

Honda’s rapid expansion to 27.5 lac unit production in current fiscal has been possible due to overwhelming customer Trust in Brand Honda. Now, as Only Honda in India, HMSI is committed to continue realizing ‘The Power of Dreams’ of Million Indians in future too.”

Another important piece of information is that Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., has inaugurated its New Technical Center at Manesar production facility. In order to achieve better efficiency, closer coordination and quality products, Honda Research and Development India (HRID) – a 100% subsidiary of Honda R&D, Japan is shifting its entire 2Wheeler operations in India to the New Technical Center in Manesar.

Speaking on this landmark development, Mr. Keita Muramatsu – President & CEO, HMSI said

“The New Technical Center shall Standardize, Optimize & Synergize our ‘Glocalized’ approach in India with Honda’s cutting edge R&D capabilities across the globe and a deep understanding of local environment to give Mobility to a billion Indians at a faster pace.”
