Bajaj Discover 125ST Sports Tourer Launched In India At Rs. 55,740

A few days back we informed you about the latest motorcycle of the Bajaj Discover family, the Discover 125ST (sports tourer) which is speculated to cost close to Rs. 60,000 ex-showroom Maharashtra. We were expecting the 125ST to be launched in Maharashtra first but the fact is that Bajaj Auto has launched the same in Tamil Nadu at an attractive price tag.

As far as Bajaj’s position in the 125 CC segment is concerned, we are aware that there is only one offering from the brand, the Discover 125. Undoubtedly the Discover 125 has all what a daily commuter would wish to have, except for the looks. The Discover family looks exactly the same which is a downside of the same and which I think is why Bajaj has come up with a new Discover 125ST. Competition wise some of the bikes to name are Honda CBF Stunner,Hero Glamour, Yamaha SS125, Honda Shine and Discover 125 & 100 CC.

Bajaj Discover 125 ST Walk Around Video Review

K Srinivas, Bajaj Auto President (Motorcycle Business) said:

“Discover ST is not an upgrade to a Discover model, but a new product in B-segment (125cc). It constitutes almost 17 per cent of the market (in the motorcycle segment) of which we have around 30 per cent market share. What we are hoping through this product is more customers will migrate to this segment. Our hope is that customers in the ‘A segment’ will migrate to this and we also gain some market share through this distinguished product. It will be suffice to say we are doing close to 50,000 units in the 125 cc segment. We will be very surprised if we do not increase that number substantially.”

2012 Bajaj Discover 125ST side

The ST is amazingly refreshing and one of the best looking motorcycles in its segment. A number of interesting features are there on the 125ST that are unseen on its competitors. It has first-in-its-class rear monoshock suspension and petal type disc brakes. It sports a 125 CC, 4 valve, DTS-I engine that puts out a good 13 BHP of max power at 9000 RPM and peak torque of 10.8 Nm at 7000 RPM. Mileage is always a concern for Indian buyers and keeping the same in mind, Bajaj has worked hard and claims the bike will deliver 65 KMPL under normal conditions.

At present the toughest competitor to Discover 125ST is Honda CB Shine but Bajaj believes that the new bike will replace the latter and will become the most loved motorcycle in the 125 CC category.
